Drunk Spartans Keep Many Michigan Businesses Shut Down

At least 34 young people who visited a popular bar near Michigan State University earlier this month have tested positive for coronavirus, according to Ingham County health officials.

Harper's on Albert Street in East Lansing have since closed there doors again and customers who visited there during this period are being advised to get tested.

"Given the number of cases in this outbreak, we consider this a higher risk exposure than a typical visit to a restaurant or bar," county health officer Linda S. Vail said in a statement Wednesday.

This prompted Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer to delay the easing of restrictions indefinitely for most of the state. On Wednesday she said that the lower part of the state was not ready to move into Phase 5 of her 6-Phase re-opening plan. Whitmer said she may allow Phase 5 to happen by July 4. It is believed that businesses in Michigan will not be allowed to move into Phase 6 until some time after the November elections.
